Bigger and better than ever! The Map Skills for Today series has been redesigned with a fun, motivating style and all-new, up-to-date maps. Working with experts in social studies and map building, more hands-on maps activities were added, more dynamic maps were created, and the content was revised to support current curriculum requirements in geography and map skills.

The "Finding Your Way" section of this teaching resource book teaches the use of maps and basic map vocabulary. The students will learn how to use a map and a globe, use maps of several kinds, use map symbols, grids, and scales. They will also learn about our 50 states, about continents, bodies of water, and landforms, and find their way using lines of latitude and lines of longitude.

The students using this teaching resource book will also make their own maps, make a map of a new town that they invent, and complete a map of the United States.

The questions in this book are separated into 4 different kinds of activities:

• Use Your Skills - This activity feature asks children to practice interpreting maps and finding specific information.
• Map It! - This interactive feature asks children to engage directly with a map.
• Think It Over - This activity feature asks children to think critically about the maps they have studied and the text they have read.
• Your Turn Now - This feature asks children to complete a project that may involve research. It often extends the lesson by asking children to apply their skills beyond the original topic.
