This resource includes instructions for creating 19 indoor and outdoor centers, patterns for props, and ideas for gathering and storing materials. Taking on roles in dramatic play centers allows young children to build vocabulary, develop phonemic and print awareness, count and measure, plan and organize, negotiate and resolve conflicts, and more! The dramatic play themes suggested are divided into indoor and outdoor centers, but all can be done indoors. When an outdoor center is underway, more emphasis will be placed on verbal and listening skills. However, suggestions are given for related activities that can be done in the classroom to reinforce the concepts. For the most part, the centers are recreations of places children frequent with their families. A few centers offer views into worlds not a part of most of our everyday lives, but they are very exciting nonetheless. By creating different, real-life scenarios, the larger world comes to children a little bit at a time. In turn, they use their imaginations and creativity to expand the concepts being presented to them. Literacy and numeracy skills, practiced as a part of real-life situations, become real to children. This resource offers educators and their students many exciting
opportunities to explore the world from their very own rooms. Children
can take on new roles and interact as different characters through the
props, writing materials, and manipulatives provided. Dramatic play offers
educators a method of challenging children to learn through practical
experience. Dramatic play is esteem-building, educational, and fun! Pages: 256
