A complete "first" handwriting program for young and special learners! This teaching resource book should be the first program presented to young children and special learners who are just beginning to learn to print. Line strokes (vertical and horizontal), slanted lines, circles, and curves are introduced and practiced before alphabet letters are introduced. After children have learned a particular stroke, the letters that utilize that stroke are taught. For example, when the children learn to draw a straight line they are then able to print a lowercase "l" and a lowercase "i". After both vertical and horizontal strokes are mastered, children are then able to print uppercase "L, T, F, E, H" and so on. This theory may sound simple and obvious to educators, but as we have seen, most handwriting books present "learning to print" through an alphabetical approach. Too often letters are introduced before children understand which way to manipulate the pencil and the proper direction for each stroke. Pre-Handwriting Practice encourages teachers to use a variety of multi sensory techniques, including tactile, auditory, and visual activities to reinforce correct letter direction and proper pencil control. When children are able to see the letters, listen to the directions, and touch the letters, they will learn faster, will develop better handwriting skills, and at the same time will decrease the possibility of reversals. Learning to print can be fun and rewarding when we provide appropriate and successful experiences four our young learners. This teaching resource book will quickly become both a necessary and favorite classroom teaching tool. Pages: 64 Grade Level: Kindergarten, First Grade,
